Matching up with the Best

By Kenny Gregory

I’m a firm believer that the key to winning any fantasy game is to be aware of the format you’re playing in and how it affects your strategy. Survivor Football only allows you to use each player only once for the entire season. I don’t know about you, but when I hear that it’s a pretty obvious conclusion that I’d better use my guys wisely.

Survivor Football is a race, and if the name didn’t give it away, it’s no sprint. Don’t worry about the guys who blast out of the gate burning through ADP, MJD, LT2, or any other 3-letter RB studs. You’ll be the one laughing as you breeze past them in Week 8 and beyond because you’ve still got all the top players sitting on the shelf.

The Detroit Lions went 0-16 last year. If my math is correct, and it usually isn’t, for every game that they won there are infinite games that they did not win. I haven’t checked the numbers just yet but I wouldn’t be surprised if QBs were 16 for 16 at meeting the threshold when going up against the Lions. Now, why am I going to waste some of the top players in the game when I could take a reliable vet like Brett Favre against the lowly Lions in Week 2. Keep your eye on the prize, don’t peak too soon, and enjoy the rush of loading up with Brady, Fitz, and Turner in Week 17 to close out the season.
